2015 Town Forum

The Town Forum was held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the East Montpelier Elementary School gymnasium. The school district was first on the agenda, followed by the town.

Town Meeting was held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the East Montpelier Elementary School gymnasium. The school district was first on the agenda, followed by the town. Please arrive early so that you can sign in and get your voting card.

Australian Ballot voting was from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the East Montpelier Elementary School. Please follow the signs to the exact location within the school. For information about early or absentee balloting, please contact Town Clerk Terri Conti at 223-3313 x 201.

Childcare was available at EMES.

Town Meeting Solutions Committee

You may recall that at the 2014 School District Meeting voters “commanded” the School Board to: form a committee representing a broad range of interests from throughout the town to explore options, technological or otherwise, to increase accessibility to the East Montpelier Town School District Annual Meeting and submit their report to the School Board no later than December 1, 2014. The following town offices were up for election at 2015 Town Meeting, March 3, 2015:

Town Moderator, 1-year term
School District Moderator, 1-year term
Town Clerk, 3-year term
Selectboard Member, 3-year term

Lister, 3-year term
Auditor, 3-year term
First Constable, 1-year term
Second Constable, 1-year term
Cemetery Commissioner, 5-year term
Planning Commissioner, 2 of 3-year term (position left vacant in 2014)

Petitions for elected office, with a minimum of 1% valid signatures from the current voter checklist for East Montpelier, were due to Town Clerk Terri Conti by 5 p.m. on January 26th. Terri recommends getting 25 signatures to ensure you have enough valid signatures from East Montpelier registered voters. New this year is a state requirement that the petition include the name of the candidate as shown on the town’s voter checklist. You can use a preferred name (including nickname) on the ballot, but the petition must have only the voter checklist version.

Petitions for proposed articles on the 2015 Town Meeting Warning, with a minimum of 5% valid signatures, were due to Terri by 5 p.m. on January 20th; Terri recommends 120 signatures for these petitions.
