Each of three elected Listers serves a three-year term, one term expiring each year. The Listers are responsible for the valuation of all taxable property in town. The Listers are paid on an hourly basis.

The Listers are responsible for the development of the Grand List (the yearly listing of property values in the town).

This will be posted when available, likely around mid-August 2021. Please contact the listers directly for individual property assessment information. See the bottom of this page for prior years.

Property Assessment Information:

The town has a new web map created by CAI Technologies that, aside from being a full service mapping program, also allows you to view an abbreviated version of your property assessment information. Simply zoom into your part of town, click on your parcel, and then click on the “NEMRC Web Data Property Card”. Please be aware that this information is a snapshot from a particular date. To be absolutely sure of current details, contact the listers directly.

2021 Grand List Information:

On June 3, 2021 the East Montpelier Listers lodged the 2021 Grand List with the Town Clerk.

2021 Listers Notice to Taxpayers

The Grand List contains the listing of all taxable properties in the town along with the current assessment of each property. The lodging of this list opens a two-week window in which taxpayers can grieve their current property assessment. Taxpayers whose assessment changed during the past year will receive direct notice of the change and right to grieve. All taxpayers, however, have the right to grieve during this period.

32 V.S.A. §4111(g) reads as follows:

A person who feels aggrieved by the action of the listers and desires to be heard by them, shall, on or before the day of the grievance meeting, file with them his objections in writing and may appear at such grievance meeting in person or by his agents or attorneys. Upon the hearing of such grievance the parties thereto may submit such documentary or sworn evidence as shall be pertinent thereto.

Grievance hearings will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Grievances must be submitted in writing and received at the town office by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. We recommend using the following form, but it is not mandatory.

2021 Application for Grievance

Submit the grievance request to:

East Montpelier Listers
PO Box 157
East Montpelier, VT 05651
– or –
listers@eastmontpeliervt.org
– or –
Drop off at the town office, 40 Kelton Road: Use either the drop box next to the handicap ramp or the drop slot at the rear entrance or, if you’d prefer, hand the request off in person at the front door during business hours.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, once again this year we will be conducting the grievance hearings by remote means (by phone or Zoom conferencing service). Once we receive your request for a hearing we will contact you to determine an agreeable methodology for holding your hearing.

If you have questions, please contact the listers at (802) 223-3313×206 or listers@eastmontpeliervt.org.
