1. Public Works/Highway Road Crew Position Job Description
Starting: May 2025
East Montpelier has an opening for a full-time Public Works Crew member. The position is 40 hours per week with on call status as needed. Must be a team player, able to work independently and lift up to 100 lbs. We will train the right candidate for CDL, Highway maintenance, large equipment operation, etc. Some preferred skills include highway maintenance or related, mechanical skills (including greasing, oil changes, changing tires, mounting equipment, repair of engines, axles, transmissions, exhaust systems and other auto systems), operating chain saw, welder, brush cutter and other equipment, knowledge of safety regulations, and ability to operate heavy machinery, operate heavy trucks, grader, bucket loader, backhoe, snow plow, sander, steamer, and other mechanical equipment, including welder, chain saw, cutting torches, paint sprayer and press, perform hand shoveling, lifting of equipment, 100 lb. bags, culverts, guard rails, rocks and soils, hand removal of brush and fallen trees, culvert cleaning, and other duties as assigned by the Road Foreman. 2. Emergency Management Director (EMD) Job Description
Pay: $1500/yr stipend
The East Montpelier Selectboard is seeking to appoint an individual who will have direct responsibility for the organization, administration and coordination of emergency management activities in the town. The State provides training and support to the EMD and there is an active committee that has been working for over a year with the Selectboard on these issues who will also provide guidance and support. The Selectboard has approved a stipend for this position. We anticipate an initial commitment of about 10-12 hours/month, to taper off after the first 6-12 months. In the case of a weather or other emergency (snow or ice storm, flooding, fire, etc.) the Director will have the primary responsibility for coordinating information flow and other activities as needed between the State, town and community members. The Emergency Management Director (EMD) is an appointed individual in each town or city who has direct responsibility for the organization, administration, and coordination of the local organization for emergency management, subject  to the direction and control of the executive officer or legislative branch.

Generally, the Emergency Management Director:
• manages the local emergency management organization, including the identification of the resources and organization that would be used to support incident command;
• facilitates Emergency Management meetings with municipal stakeholders to discuss current emergency management plans, organization, equipment, training, and exercises;
• manages the creation and maintenance of the Local Emergency Management Plan;
• manages the maintenance of the local Emergency Operations Center;
• coordinates citizen preparedness initiatives;
• coordinates volunteer recruitment;
• participates as a voting member in the Regional Emergency Management Committee
• participates in the creation of the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan;
• participates in the Emergency Manager Certification program offered by Vermont Emergency Management;
• if necessary, appoints an Emergency Management Coordinator or other support staff to assist in executing any of these responsibilities.

During an incident, the EMD will generally be coordinating information flow between the municipality and the state, coordinating resource acquisition on behalf of the Incident Commander, and maintaining a common operating picture for the incident occurring within the town.

East Montpelier Needs a Board Rep for CVSWMD

East Montpelier is seeking a Board Representative to the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District (CVSWMD). CVSWMD provides education, advocacy, and services for residents and businesses in reducing and managing their solid waste in order to protect public health and the environment. These include a range of services such as landfill-banned and household hazardous waste collection, workshops, grants, and school programming on recycling and other solid waste topics. Board representatives are responsible for acting on behalf of the solid waste needs of the 19-member-town District, while representing the needs and interests of their own community. The Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm.
