Due to the various elements of the merger process of the six school districts within the Washington Central Supervisory Union into the single, new Washington Central Unified Union School District, a number of special school meetings were held in 2019. Results of those meetings are presented below.

2019 Town Forum
The Town Forum was held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. in the East Montpelier Elementary School gymnasium. The school district went first on the agenda, followed by the town.
2019 Town Meeting
Town Meeting was held Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. in the East Montpelier Elementary School gymnasium. The school district will be first on the agenda, followed by the town. Please arrive early so that you can sign in and get your voting card.
Australian Ballot voting was held from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the East Montpelier Elementary School library. For information about early or absentee balloting, please contact Town Clerk Rosie Laquerre at 223-3313 x 201.
The VT Secretary of State also offers voter services: “My Voter Page” to, among other things, request an absentee ballot or simply check on your registration; “Vermont Online Voter Registration” to register to vote online.
Childcare was available at EMES.

What You Need to Know About East Montpelier
The following town offices were up for election at 2019 Town Meeting, March 5, 2019:
Town Moderator, 1-year term

Second Constable, 1-year term

Petitions for elected office, with a minimum of 1% valid signatures from the current voter checklist for East Montpelier, were due to Town Clerk Rosie Laquerre by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 28th. Rosie recommended getting 25 signatures to ensure you had enough valid signatures from East Montpelier registered voters. There is a state requirement that the petition include the name of the candidate as shown on the town’s voter checklist. You can use a preferred name (including nickname) on the ballot, but the petition must have only the voter checklist version.
Petitions for proposed articles on the 2019 Town Meeting Warning, with a minimum of 5% valid signatures, were due to Rosie by 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 17th; Rosie recommended 125 signatures for these petitions.
